GBO brings “Gone Too Soon,” his latest musical perspective, from Chicago to the world

Music has always been part of life for Chicago rapper GBO (that’s two syllables, G-Boh). Ever Since he was a kid, he loved to write music and create songs. He wrote and created his first song at the age of 15. He hasn’t created any music in a while.

Until this year, when he released three songs. The latest is “Gone Too Soon,” a tribute to friends and loved ones no longer with him.

“Through the years, a lot of people close to me have passed away,” he said. “Some of my best friends are gone. Some of my family members. I just wanted to make a song to remember them and say it’s not the end, to stay positive, and to put out a good message.”

The message comes with a guitar meditation behind Philadelphia singer Rachel Philipp’s chorus and a soft drumbeat punctuating GBO’s rap:

Every minute with a loved one’s like a blessing to me

Your friendship’s like a circle that never ends

You’re the brother I never had, my best friend

I know your spirit lives on through my pen

Now as I pray, I say a-men.

“I just know I like to make music,” he said, “and recently I got back into it because I really enjoy it.”

Music “is my passion now,” but back in the early years it was more of an escape. He doesn’t talk much about that time, believing excessive detail would be a distraction from his music, but he did say he had a difficult childhood in a bad neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.

“Music would get me through everything,” he said.

Now, if things work out well, he wants to make his living from music. When he wrote those earlier songs, the music business was different, much more difficult to navigate. Today, with online music platforms and social media to help build a fanbase, music and a music career are much more “accessible.”

More accessibility makes collaboration easier. “Gone Too Soon” features Rachel on the chorus (“She did a phenomenal job.”), and his first two, “Rebound” and “Pushing Me” feature St. Laurent Don on hard-edged trap tracks.

“I’m just gonna start making my music, making my songs, see how it comes out and go from there.”

In his youth he listened to a lot of rock, from Elvis to Metallica, pop, “pretty much throw it in, I listened to it.” He also listened to hip hop — Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre, “just everything you can think of” — and his music now is rap, whereas his teen music was more singing.

“Hip hop and trap music,” he said. “I try to keep it more modern because the music’s always evolving. I try to see what’s hot right now and listen to some songs and work from there.

He writes lyrics to beats he likes.

I look for something I can vibe with. If I’m listening to it and I feel like good about it, I start writing and take it from there. Like in ‘Gone Too Soon,’ I was listening to it, and I just started thinking like, the beat gave me a sad feeling, so I’m gonna write a sad song.”

In the process, he adjusted both the beat the and lyrics and ended up making a soulful, meditative “Gone Too Soon” that lifts the spirit rather than saddens it, and while the melodic chorus pleases the ear, GBO’s rap engages the pulse.

“I write music from many different perspectives,” he said. “At the end of the day, I just want people to enjoy it, to feel something from it, whether it’s in having fun or whether it’s like ‘Gone Too Soon,’ being sad. That’s the most you can ask for, that somebody connects with your music? They get it. They understand.”

Making a good career out of music would be nice, he said, but he is learning the business. He plans to do live performances, but that is a different process than writing, rapping and releasing tracks, and he is still feeling his way into that. He is exploring hiring a manager and expanding his presence on music and video platforms.

Meantime, he is writing, people are listening, and he is building a fanbase.

“I try not to have any expectations, because if I don’t have any expectations, and I see people listening to it, and people like it, and people connect to me, I get excited, right? Because my expectation was nothing. My expectation right now is, let’s see where it goes, see what I can do with it.”

MLife Music Group is the Label We Need Right Now

Anabel Oreste and Norman Alexander performed at the New York City’s Mayor final campaign rally 2021, a moment that returned hope to the horizon for New Yorkers. The two artists are signed to MLife Music Group, a fitting label for Eric Adams’ rally. His mayorship represents a new era of safety, understanding, and togetherness for the city–values also at the core of MLife.

MLife Music Group was born from the belief that music is a tool of healing. The seeds of this label were in CEO Mike Jean’s non-profit foundation Hope for Them. The foundation launched the project Music For Them which invited volunteer artists to perform in hospitals, churches, and schools. Sharing music in this way helps to uplift and inspire some of the community’s most vulnerable. To this aim, it succeeded, and its message was widely spread.

Music For Them worked with major organizations like NY Cares, Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society, before branching into cities throughout the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Africa.

This work earned Mike Jean a Lifetime Achievement Award from President Biden, but only just scratched the surface of how he would use music to create community.

Creating community is at the heart of the label. Not only do the artists each have a talent for stirring an overwhelming sense of emotion (Humberto Gatica famously likened Annabel Oreste to Celine Dion and Andrea Boccelli) but each goes above and beyond music: they aim to connect.

In 2020, when the world felt a desperate need to unite, Norman Alexander released “No Goodbyes.” As the world faced dark days and the fear of the pandemic, Alexander reminded his listeners that music would always be there to help move each other forward.

The deeply emotional single earned him recognition as one of the top 20 artists of 2020. The song highlights the message of MLife, in that whenever there is suffering, it can be shared. Wherever there is pain, music can bring love.

Unsurprisingly, Annabel Oreste shares a similar ability to captivate the hearts of an audience. After signing with MLife, she gave a stirring performance of Anita Baker’s “Body and Soul.” Even online, she reached a wider community and the performance attracted 500,000 new fans in a week.

“It’s been a while since I have met a new artist with the talents to bring me back to the old days,” said Humberto Gatica, putting Oreste in a camp with artists who have voices that move mountains.

It’s not just about booming voices, but also about creating art with awareness and empathy. This is the sort of lyricism that SPRBLK brings to his music. He draws inspiration from humanity as a whole, but women in particular, who he sees as the universal life force.

MLife’s devotion to bringing people together is complete with its choreographer, Erell Allier. After winning the European National Dance Competition, she signed to MLife and entered the spotlight as the dancer in the “No Goodbyes” video. The champion’s dancing has been called “pain and poetry”, letting music burst into life through her expressive performance.

Youthful, energized, and ambitious are the words that come to mind when thinking of Katherine Vollenweider. She finished top ten of Miss Suisse Francophone 2021 and joined MLife Music Group as a model and singer songwriter the same year. As Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton puts it: “What a beautiful spirit! You have a bright future in front of you especially here in America.”

Looking at the artists reveals the true essence of MLife Music Group. They are a label devoted to pushing the boundaries of what a music group could be; not just a place to produce music, but a place to share pain and emotions through art.

Each MLife artist is encouraged to take up part of the mantle of Music for Them and volunteer their time to perform for some of the most disadvantaged. Still, no matter who is in the audience, these artists bring the message of peace and unity.

Mayor Eric Adams’ rally, a place filled with people who are hoping for change, hoping for progress, and holding onto hope itself, was a fitting audience for the MLife artists. Their vulnerable performances inspired the togetherness and vulnerability that people need, and exactly what MLife Music Group provides.

Saydez Benz drops “Money Baby”

Saydez Benz gives us the vibes we needed this winter with her new hit release “Money Baby”. With idols like Missy Elliot, she turns a dance track into a raw cutting edge HipHop sound with a taste of R&B elements. It’s very tasteful and delivered with elegance and grace while still reminding us she is a boss lady. This hit will for sure bring everyone back to the dance floor.

Coming from a rough upbringing, Saydez Benz has put her sound and toughness to the test on her new single. After just a few listens, it makes you want to continue the repeat cycle over and over again with lines like “if you want to step to me, you better get this money baby”.
She has promised to give us more music this year and that we have not seen the best of her yet.

Keep up with Saydez Benz

Gr8ful is bringing new light to our emotions with his
project PERSPECTIVES

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – Since he was a young man, Gr8ful has always been in love with music and the influence that it had on people. At only 13 he was writing his own music and freestyling for other kids in the park. Several years later he is releasing his latest project, a set of singles under the title PERSPECTIVES.

PERSPECTIVES comes to the table with two main focuses to it. Not only does the project look at the different ways to approach the topic of finding your place in the world, it also hints towards the artist’s own name. “You have to look at things from different angles to practice gratuity sometimes,” Gr8ful explained. “I think the project, and the rest of my music is a representation of that.”

As a project, PERSPECTIVES includes two songs, “Pop Off” and “Carry On”. Each song uses its own unique methods to get you to the main idea of the project, that everyone has a place and role in this life. You simply are not alone.

Starting with “Pop Off”, this track takes on the more energetic half of the project. A collaboration between Gr8ful and a few talented artists of various backgrounds, the track blends together seamlessly. “It was so rare to get such a quickly cohesive feel from such a diverse group,” he said. “It’s something I want everyone to be able to feel. In this track and their own lives.”

“Carry On”, unlike its partner track, is inspired by a groovy 80’s sound. “This song is about being able to carry on no matter what is  thrown at you.” Having a gorgeously communal feel to it, this song is a representation of the knowledge that you will always have someone in your corner.

“I chose the title PERSPECTIVES because each song takes a very different approach,” Gr8ful explained. While “Pop Off” has a very forward and high tempo feel, “Carry On” takes on a smoother, more Funky sound. Despite coming from different sides, the two songs lead you to the same important conclusion, live your life to the fullest and love who you truly are.

Following the release of the PERSPECTIVE tracks, Gr8ful is looking forward to the release of several different videos, ranging from behind the scenes moments to visual representations of the music. He will also be gearing up for future tracks and releases. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this artist.

Hip-hop Artist Flex Kartel Drops Collaborative Record Featuring Sada Baby

Maryland-based hip-hop artist and creator, Flex Kartel, recently dropped a hot new record for fans across the world. “Get a Bag” (Feat. Sada Baby) centers around the concept of getting up and going for it. “What are you doing if you ain’t getting money. Go get a bag,” tells Flex Kartel through song.

“Get up and go hustle as hard as you can–even if you think it’s going to take all of these tools. You just need to start. Once you start, it all falls into place,” shares the artistl. Flex Kartel’s latest single is all about the hustle. It’s also about creating art.

Reflecting on his music, Flex Kartel describes his sound as “different, beautiful art.” “I would say it’s a Picasso. If you listen to my records, you won’t get the same beautiful painting out of every record. There is always something different and beautiful about every song.” This single in particular is high energy, blending rap with melodic R&B melodies to create a sound designed to flow through your body and make you want to move.

“Get a Bag” began with a beat. “I was in the studio and created the record that night in 30 minutes,” shares Flex Kartel of the creation behind the song, which was designed to become a collaboration with Sada Baby. As soon as he heard it, Sada Baby was psyched to jump on it–and the rest is musical history.

When it comes to creating music in general, Flex Kartel sees his creative process as more than a method: “It’s something that God gave me.” When he goes into the booth, songs come to him. “They become a free painting. I paint a picture, and it becomes a story. Every song is a story.”

At the end of the day, Flex Kartel is happy when his biggest supporter is happy. “My mom is my biggest supporter. For sure. After all, she made me,” teases Flex Kartel about making his mother proud through his art, which is also a beacon of hope. “I want people to know that anything that you dream of or think of is possible. And if you feel like working with me, I’m always open to creating with artists who have the time and are down for the grind.”

In the next year, Flex Kartel is excited to release more music to his fans. “I’m really excited to give them another high energy record. I’m working on two EPs right now,” tells the artist.  He’s also in the midst of performing live at venues in the near future.

Producer The ATG Heats Up the Streets with Lil Reese on “Demon Time” Album

Super producer The ATG is a music maestro, who is in a league of his own. He recently teamed up with Chicago based rap star Lil Reese to produce a full-length album titled “Demon Time.” This explosive album was entirely produced by The ATG.“Demon Time” is like a Trap Music opera in scope. The ATG’s conceptual development on the project delivers musical vibes that are sonically dark, sinister, and nocturnal. The producer’s trademark eerie orchestral sounds draw upon classical music influences. With a consistently unique style tinged with avant-garde gothic elements, the elusive producer has built a catalog behind him that speaks for itself.

Equally important, the 11- track album “Demon Time” is spearheaded by the record label Kyyba Music. If you’re a fan of eerie hard beats and aggressive lyrical flows, then this album is for you. It’s filled with captivating street anthems delivered by Lil Reese. Stand out gems on the project include the songs “Pressure” featuring Wuda and “Everywhere I Go” featuring Prince Dre. As Drill/Trap music continues to transition to mainstream success, The ATG is a clear choice as one of the producers to watch. He anchors the scene with an important dose of authenticity. He combines grim and unapologetically chilling production with cinematic vision.

About The ATG

Occupying a space all his own, the Detroit bred producer/artist known as The ATG has more than proven that he owns the space where huge, cinematic sound meets traditional hip hop production. The ATG was tapped to collaborate with Swifty McVay of D12 for the Devil’s Night soundtrack. That early bet became a jumping off point for the producer, leading to future work with a hand in TRAP CITY projects, as well as a storied and continuous working relationship with artist Omar Gooding. A recently released project with rapper Lil Reese will round out a stacked 2022 for the cinematic trap producer, ending with over 50 tracks released.

Looking toward the future, The ATG has dipped into collaborating with songwriters and studio musicians in a way he hasn’t before, peaking a new interest for him as a creative. The ATG seems to be reigning in his brooding and dark style to create a whole new horizon for himself– and 2023 is shaping up to become pivotal for the artist by a previously unexplored definition. When speaking about who he hopes to be in the coming year, the producer says, “With my background and what I’ve done, there’s still a lot of skeptics out there. I hope to surprise people with what’s next.”
