“Run Dat”, a energy filled trap song with a “Run DMC” feel. My first debut single “African Woman” featured on sites such as “This Is 50”, “All Hip Hop Rap Scene”, “It’s AGTV” and “My Hip Hop Life”, “On the Scene NY”. “Run Dat” is available on all major music platforms.
BOWIE, MD–Focusing on the hardships of loss, love, and cultural identity that singer Cadáze experienced growing up, the DC-metropolitan-based artist is honoring both sides of her upbringing on her upcoming EP SKIN. The EP’s title track is an ode to her mother and grandmother–showing that Cadáze can write an afro-pop hit that can energize a crowd, but that also sings her story.
“For ‘SKIN,’ one of my greatest losses was my father at a very young age. And one of my biggest inspirations in life is my mom. And it’s because of how she had to raise me and my family through all kinds of cultural difficulties or financial difficulties,” explains Cadáze. “She really stood up for me and it’s similar to my grandmother. And when I was looking in terms of my whole entire life, many families don’t have to lose a parent to realize how strong their mothers are. I’ve seen a lot of women having to really bend their backs for their kids just to make ends meet. I really want to respect that and I want to respect that in my work.”
Cadáze grew up in the northwest region of Cameroon in Batibo and as a child was surrounded by music in her community’s church. When her family migrated to the United States, she began focusing on other goals, receiving a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland Baltimore County and her master’s degree from George Washington University, and it wasn’t until mid-pandemic that she decided to get back into writing.
Two years later, the singer has released 7 singles and has received attention from singer/song-writer Ne-Yo on her single “For You,” who recorded a guest intro for the single.”Easy Love,” featuring singer Rhamani, is the first release of SKIN. Cadáze explains the single is the intro track and represents the eclectic range of sound listeners will hear on the EP.
“I do have a strong Cameroonian background, but most of my life has been in the United States and so I want to create music that anybody can listen to, anybody can enjoy and anybody can relate to and in a room, in the realms of hip-hop and afro-beat,” says Cadáze.
SKIN is set to be released some time this year, but Cadáze is anticipating producing more music and seeing where her listeners take her. She’s optimistic about her music career and those ambitions, work ethic, and her life building up to its release can be heard in those songs.
“Music is art and art allows me to be able to kind of express myself, my emotions, and it’s a lot of fun. So I like to see what I’m capable of and I like to create something and share it with people. That brings me a lot of joy.”
Throughout the second half of 2022, the hard rock band Blurred Vizion will be releasing a series of singles on the 6th of every month, leading up to the release of their EP My Guardian Demon.
The band is composed of three members: Joe Enlow, Brandon Olbeter, and Eli Olbeter. Brandon and Eli navigate the aftermath of a disease called retinitis pigmentosa, which had caused them both to go blind over the course of their lives.
Together with their longtime friend Joe, the two brothers have formed a band which delves into the difficult emotions of disability. The three seek to use rock to not only help others navigate their emotional troubles, but also to inspire others – disabled or not – to realize their life’s potential.
Growing up, Brandon and Eli found themselves drawn to the heavier sounds of rock. Inspired by Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden, the two developed an affinity for the openly loud and emotive sounds of heavy metal, developing their own musical styles around it.
Eli plays the drums and Brandon plays guitar and bass. Both are self-taught, each having to invent ways to play their instruments without seeing. They became rock musicians by ear, originally mimicking the sound of their favorite bands before learning how to compose.
Eli says, “It was a whole process not being able to see and still being able to play the drums. But I heard my brother Brandon playing the guitar and got really into what he did. When I got a drum set, we started jamming together and we’ve been playing hard rock ever since.”
The two brothers both became members of another band, who had hired their close friend Joe as part of their road crew.
Joe had helped the band over the years while maintaining a separate presence as a rap-rock artist, influenced by Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, and Limp Bizkit.
As the three worked together, they formed the group Blurred Vizion with Joe as the front man on vocals.
Joe says, “We try to express the kind of darker emotions and anger that comes from struggling. Even though I’m not disabled, I can relate to the emotions the two brothers feel. We’d like to help spread awareness to not just the blindness, but the mental health issues people with disabilities face in general.”
On June 6th, the band released their first single “Torture”, expressing the self-doubt and anxiety people face while lost in navigating life.
“Torture” explores the mental health aspects of blindness, serving as an open outlet for the three to voice the harsh feelings they have faced in their lives.
The single’s harsh sound presents with intensity the trying struggles disabled people face. It can be difficult to find value in oneself when one comes to define themselves in terms of what they can and cannot do.
But here, the band voices their feelings to give people a way out. There are other forms of potential aside from ability.
Brandon says, “We want to show the real side of things in our music and art, and kind of speak a truth to the emotions people are facing right now.”
Eli expands, “Yeah, because our lives are not easy. The day to day is hard. But we want to show that to people. That we don’t let our disability knock us down. And you know, with hard work, motivation, and the right mindset and attitude, you can do anything whether you’re disabled or not. We try to inspire people to not let disabilities, or anything for that matter, definite how you live your life.”
Upcoming, the band will release the singles “Hate Me” on July 6th and “Tethered Noose” on August 6th.
More singles will come monthly every 6th, leading up to the last single “666” on November 6th. November 6th is also the release date for the EP My Guardian Demon.
The singles “Torture”, “Tethered Noose”, and “666” will be accompanied with music videos, featuring the stories of the three, and the emotions each member faces.
Eli says, “Each track highlights a different emotion. I’m really excited for it all to be out there.”
Brandon, Eli, and Joe are also active with the organization Foundation Fighting Blindness. The foundation seeks to find a cure for retinitis pigmentosa and other eye diseases and raises awareness for issues affecting blind people.
Brandon says, “Yeah, we’ve been working with the foundation for a number of years now, helping with their studies and bringing awareness for what they do. One of the biggest things for me and Eli is to try to find a cure for this disease and put an end to it.”
The band is currently taking orders for merchandise to help the foundation. They are selling shirts and keychains featuring the band’s logo for $30, or keychains alone for $10. Proceeds will be split 50/50 between the band and the charity. The band will be taking orders directly over social media or via Shopify at blurredvizion21.myshopify.com
Lastly, the three wish to share the belief that anything is possible.
Eli says, “The goal is to make an impact on the world, for people to see our story. We’re good people trying to do good things here. We try to bring awareness towards good causes, but most of all, we also try to inspire people that you can do whatever you put yourself to.”
He continues, “We do that by showing the real side of things. The things that aren’t pretty with what people feel. Because people need to hear those things to realize that they aren’t alone.”

VICTORIA, CANADA – For rising star Mr. Esq, the night that set him on the path to finding his voice in hip hop was also the night of the biggest mistake of his life. Eighteen years old and heavily intoxicated in the wake of his infant son’s death, he got into a street fight. He landed one punch and his victim hit his head on the ground when he went down. Mr. Esq blacked out and woke up in chains facing manslaughter charges. He would eventually be sentenced to ten years in federal prison for aggravated assault.
Mr. Esq says that moment was a wake-up call. He vowed to never drink again and has been sober ever since. He used his time in prison to focus on how he was going to be a better man on release.
“Inside you come across a lot of situations where you either go one way or the other. You come across people who know they’re never getting out, so they figure, why change? But there’s guys like me who decide they never wanna walk that path again,” he says.
He was released on parole after seven years and began turning his experience into music.
“I followed my release plan. I’m a productive member of society, raising my little girl,” he says. “I utilize a lot of my history and mistakes in my music as a deterrent for up-and-coming artists and kids in difficult neighborhoods.”
For all that Mr. Esq has matured since his teenage years as a drug dealer and wheelman for gangs, he still brings his origins into every aspect of his music. The “Esq” stands for Esquimalt, the rough-and-tumble town on Vancouver Island where he grew up.
“I’m a product of my neighborhood. It’s gotten a thousand times better since I was kid, ‘cause they cut a lot of guys like me out of the neighborhood,” Mr. Esq says.
His major-label debut from Predominant studios, “Esquire,” coming out in July, features those stories across 20 tracks that range from club bangers to real issues songs about Mr. Esq’s own experiences with drugs, crime, and prison.
“This is my eighteenth studio album, but it’s my debut album with an actual label. I wanted to use it as a reintroduction and touch on a lot of things that people are afraid to talk about,” Mr. Esq says.
Lead single “Rich Problems,” featuring Madchild of the top-selling Canadian hip hop group Swollen Members, is a party banger about aspiring to make it big and the problems that come with it.
“’Rich Problems’ is one of those songs that wasn’t really planned. Madchild just pulled up in a G Wagon and I said, ‘You got rich problems,’” Mr. Esq says. “Rich problems are something I would like to have. One day I’ll get that Drake money.
“I come from nothing and a lot of people come from nothing in this world. When you work hard and you start to do well, sometimes people look at you sideways like, ‘now that you don’t need to hustle, you think you’re better than us.’ I don’t think like that. It all depends on your perspective of what makes you rich. I’m rich in family.”
Also making waves on streaming platforms is the album’s second emphasis track, “A Mother’s Day,” an ode to Mr. Esq’s mother.
“I wanted to do a song for my mom for all the shit I put her through. It’s a shout-out for all the moms out there. It’s a blanket statement for all women who’ve given birth that we appreciate you,” Mr. Esq says.
“Esquire” is just the beginning of Mr. Esq’s 2022 hustle. He’s already working on his next projects with other Victoria artists, and an upcoming collaboration with Death Row Records’ Merkules. He’s also planning to release music videos and tour around Vancouver Island.
”Not a day goes by that I don’t write something down or collaborate,” he says. “It took a long time to get to where I am and I’m not gonna slow down now.”
